FAQs
The basic installation fee shown includes the following:
- The cost of your chosen unit, mounted above ground onto a wall.
- Up to 3 hours on site from a qualified EV Quickcharge engineer
- Up to 10 metres of cable mounted above ground, a single drill point and associated cap end.
Once you have chosen your preferred unit, we’ll usually carry out either a virtual or in person survey to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that your quote is accurate and fixed. Rest assured, you’ll never receive any hidden charges.
We’ll need to ensure that your proposed unit and charging location meet certain criteria in order to offer the basic installation cost:
- The unit you choose must be OZEV approved.
- Your charge point can only be a maximum of 10 metres from your distribution board, which must also have a spare breaker without an RCD protector.
- Groundworks are not included within the cost e.g. burying cables etc. The costs are based on all appliances being placed above ground.
- Unless stated, chargers should be protected from the weather either in a garage or car port.
- The unit will utilise the earth management of the main property, therefore this must be of an appropriate standard.
- The homeowner must comply with all current OZEV Domestic Scheme terms and conditions.
We’ll aim to gather all the required information during the initial conversation, then confirm everything via the virtual or in person site survey.
It is critical that any EV charging point installed is electrically safe above all else. All charging points are installed with the usual RCD protection and other standard safety features, however on occasion, charging points can suffer from a loss of the Protective Earth and Neutral (PEN) conductor. Such PEN faults can lead to a large voltage being discharged to any conductive surface e.g. a car when plugged into a charging point.
A number of charging point options are now being supplied with built in PEN protection, however some units will still require an additional earth rod to be installed. Rest assured, you’ll always be advised as to any earth rod requirements to ensure your system is safe.
By getting to this stage, we’re assuming that you’ve begun to do some homework, but as with everything else, there are lots of conflicting opinions regarding charging costs and potential savings. One thing is fairly standard, calculating the cost of a charge is quite simple:
Size of battery (kWh) x Electricity cost of your supplier (pence per kilowatt hour)
Of course the next issue is, how do you find out the size of your battery, and what electricity tariff are you on? We’ve found a very useful article below from car magazine with a number of case studies included.

The most important aspect of any installation is electrical safety, and with any other system, we always recommend periodical inspections from a qualified engineer in order to maintain electrical safety.
